Brazil's world No. 125 Thiago Monteiro defeated Santiago Giraldo 6-1, 6-2 in the first rubber, winning 83% of all points on his first serve.
In the second match, Colombia's Daniel Galan sent down eight aces as he overcame Guilherme Clezar 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.
Saturday's schedule at Parque Distrital de Raquetas on Colombia's Caribbean coast was due to start with the doubles match between Colombia's Juan Sebastian Cabal/Robert Farah and Brazil's Marcelo Melo/Marcelo Demoliner. It was to be followed by the reverse singles.
