JAKARTA, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's triathlon and duathlon squad is hoping to secure one gold and four silver medals during the forthcoming 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in the Philippines.
Indonesia will send four athletes to compete in the triathlon and duathlon events, which are scheduled to be held from December 1 to 4, said Akbar Nasution, manager of the Indonesian team.
Nasution pointed out that the gold medal and one silver medal were expected to be secured from the duathlon event, and the other three silver medals from the triathlon event.
The Indonesian athletes were also expected to secure points to ensure qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, the manager added.
"We are optimistic that this will be a good initial step for Indonesia's preparations for the 2024 Olympics. A good achievement in the regional sports event will contribute points to the qualification for the Olympics in Paris," Nasution remarked.
For preparations, the manager explained that he has set up special training camps in Indonesia's provinces of West Java and East Java.
Jauhari Johan, who has 12 years' experience in the triathlon, said he was upbeat about winning a gold medal during the games.
"Preparations have been carried out well, and now we need to focus on mental preparation," he said.
The 30th biennial regional multi-sport event is scheduled to be held in the Philippines from November 30 to December 11. Enditem
