BEIJING, July 8 (Xinhua) -- On the Nanhu Lake in Jiaxing of east China's Zhejiang Province rests one of the most famous boats in the country -- the Red Boat, which honors the conclusion of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
It was the summer of 1921. CPC founders attending the Party's First National Congress were forced to leave a small building in the French concession area of Shanghai. They boarded a boat on Nanhu Lake in Jiaxing to continue the congress proceedings.
In a century, the CPC has grown from a small party of some 50 members into the world's biggest Marxist ruling party with over 95 million members. And China has developed from an impoverished country to the second-largest economy in the world.
Meanwhile, Jiaxing has grown into a modern city which saw all-round development.
The city is gaining momentum as a dynamic player in the Yangtze River Delta while still cherishing the memories of being an important site in the history of the CPC. ■
